A founding member of the collective Future Jazz Project, Venus Cruz has opened for artists such as Black Thought of The Roots, Saul Williams, Zap Mama, Goapele, Al Green, Guru, Vieux Farka Toure, Tinariwen, Bishop Desmond Tutu and most recently Grammy nominated, Hiatus Kaiyote. Upcoming, she will be opening for Grammy nominated Emily King at the Fox Theatre. In 2012, Cruz won Westword’s Best R&B Vocalist Award. Currently, she performs in a number of groups, including the Greg Harris Vibe Quintet and in her band “What Young Men Do”. She’s also a regular performer in Denver’s UMS festival. She’s held residencies at Dazzle Jazz, Herb’s Bar, El Chapultepec, Jazz at Jack’s and The Living Room and is a regular player on the scene with various musicians. With deep improvisational skills and a soulful voice, Cruz has collaborated with artists from many different genres of music. She is also the host and DJ for the show “Jazz Odyssey” every Wednesday (10 p.m. to 12 a.m.) on KUVO.org 89.3FM.”
